Personal Trainer, Mark ‘No Excuses!’ Newton, at least has a smile on his face when he says he has the perfect routine that can be done on the balcony of your holiday hotel!
Mark says: “Lack of space can be seen as a barrier to doing a good cardio work out, but I’ve devised a routine that can more or less be done anywhere – your kitchen, bedroom, even on the beach.
If you think about confined spaces, think about astronauts! They spend on average 2 hours a day exercising to prevent bone and muscle loss. NASA has equipped the International Space Station with some pretty nifty gear including a space treadmill called COLBERT and a stationary bike called CEVIS.I think we can do just as well with the floor and a chair!”
Mark continues: “Today’s routine might also good for students studying at this time of year and stuck in the confines of their bedrooms. Exercise increases focus and concentration. Regular exercise releases brain chemicals key for memory, concentration and mental sharpness at the same time as lifting your mood, lowering stress and anxiety all of which contribute to brain health.
A few recent studies offer an additional exercise-related tip: time your workouts for just after a study session, and you might better retain the information you just learned!”
Mark is based at Paragon Fitness Studios in Bishops Stortford and his sporting background is running. He has been with Springfield Striders in Chelmsford since 2007 and competed in road races in the UK and all over the world including completing the World Marathon Majors. He constantly strives to run faster over all distances from 5k up to the marathon and instil this dedication and passion when training others.
