We joined Event Director Claire Splarn on a very special day for Chelmsford junior parkrun – their 5th birthday!
206 children, (the highest this year so far!), ran the 2k course with many in fancy dress. The junior parkrun is for children between 4 and 14. They are open to all, free and are safe and easy to take part in. Registered park runners do not need to register separately for the junior events, but if you’re not already registered its simple to do so at www.parkrun.org.uk/events/juniorevents/
Many of the younger children where accompanied by siblings and parents and all looked to be having a good time. There were personal bests for some, but it didn’t matter first or last – everyone was clapped through the finish line with the same enthusiasm. And as it was a birthday – there was of course cake!
Claire, who began as a volunteer in 2014 said: “This is a fantastic and free event. Every Sunday at 9.15 we get together for pre run talk and warm up and welcome any newcomers. Each week we have a few more turn up and there’s a great energy and real sense of fun about the meeting. We’d really encourage everyone to use parkrun as a great way of doing their 30 minutes of physical activity during June”.
